Panasonic developed a 128 lm/W white OLED

We're happy to announce the OLED-Info mobile application - now you can read OLED news on your mobile phone easily! The application also includes OLED photos, videos and access to our twitter feed. We have published applications for iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android, Symbian (Nokia) and there's also a mobile browser version - which can be used in all mobile devices that have a browser.

OLED displays and lighting used in car concepts

OLED in automobiles aren't new, but it seems that more and more car makers are starting to understand the advantages of OLED panels - thin, efficient, transparent and flexible. In the 2011 Frankfurt motor show, two companies unveiled new car concepts that use OLEDs in a new an interesting way.

The more interesting concept (from the OLED point of view, anyway) is Daimler's Smart Forvision EV. This concept car has a transparent solar-panels on the roof, see-through dashboard and transparent OLEDs for internal lighting. Daimler partnered with BASF on the plastic wheels, heat shield and new aluminum fiber paints - and we assume BASF also helped with the actual OLED displays - although it seems (from the hexagonal shape) that they were made by Philips (they have been showing transparent OLED panels since 2009).

The second car concept with OLEDs in the same show was Kia's GT. The GT uses transparent OLEDs to display instrument data and navigation. They are using three OLED panels to create a 3D effect, this is quite a clever design. The car also includes OLEDs in the climate control display. The GT is is Kia's third concept that uses transparent OLEDs: the first one was the 2010 Pop and the second was the Naimo from early in 2011.

Rumors corner - OLED iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III

Apple OLED rumors never stop, and as the company is set to release a new iPhone soon, some speculate that it will include an OLED display. Indeed, one of our sources claim that this is true - and that the iPhone 5 will include a 4" OLED display. We'll have to wait and see on that one of course - but at least this is the first time in history that Samsung's production capacity may be enough for Apple (especially as some suggest that they will release one high-end model and one lower-end one).

There were also some rumors floating around about the Galaxy S2 successor - the S3 of course. And the display? A 4.65" Super AMOLED HD featuring 1280x1024 resolution. Obviously we expect the S3 to include Samsung's latest AMOLED display, but this phone specs seem rather optimistic. Finally, the third rumor is that Motorola is set to release a new phone with a 4.3" qHD (960x540) Super AMOLED display. This will not be Motorola's first AMOLED phone, actually - back in August 2010 they launched their first AMOLED phone, the clamshell Ming A1680 for the Chinese market that had a 3.1" display.
