Back in May, Samsung (the only company with a mass-production AMOLED plant) announced that they can't meet up with the demand for AMOLED displays, and they (reportedly) decided to keep all Super-AMOLED panels for themselves. Since then we keep hearing of companies that use LCDs instead of OLEDs (HTC, Pantech, and others).
It's rather safe to assume that OLEDs will remain dormant for the next few months: we might see some new devices, but anyone who hopes to make a successful gadget will be wary of OLEDs: there simply ain't enough of them. The future looks good for OLEDs though: a lot of new production lines will be on-line in the next few years (from Samsung, LG, AUO, TPO and others). DisplaySearch, in fact, predicts over 20 new AMOLED production lines in just 3 years. So we don't have long to wait...

We had rumors about Samsung's upcoming tablet computer for months. A lot of reports said it will use an AMOLED (or even a Super-AMOLED) display. This was rather unlikely though, as they can't keep up with AMOLED demand as it is. Samsung has finally officially announced the Galaxy Tab, and indeed it has a TFT-LCD display.
The Galaxy S phone does use a Super-AMOLED (4") - and it's doing great. Samsung say that they have sold over a million Galaxy-S phones in the US - in just 45 days. The phone started shipping on July 15, and is currently available for AT&T and T-Mobile (it will soon be available with Sprint, Verizon, U.S. Cellular and Cellular South). Amazon are now offering it for AT&T at no cost (with a new plan), It is now AT&T's best selling phone in Amazon!
Brian Berkeley, Samsung's OLED R&D VP is obviously bullish on OLEDs. He says that OLED TVs are 'coming soon', and that Samsung "have their eyes set on the possibility of OLED TVs". Brian also says that OLEDs will be especially suited for 3D TVs - we've heard that before, of course, from Samsung and from Sony as well.
