| Samsung says that Full-size OLED TVs |
Samsung has been critical of OLED TVs in the past, but things are changing. Now Samsung Mobile Display's president of engineering Brian Berkeley said that Samsung is accelerating its development of OLED displays, including increasing the size and volume to enable rollout of OLED TVs. He predicts that a 40" OLED TV will use only 10 watts in about five years (compared to 40 watts today for a 40" LCD). He also said that the technology will be great for 3D TVs (image switching is quicker and so left and right images are completely separated).
Samsung has also announced a new Super-AMOLED phone, the Galaxy S. It has the largest (4" 800x480) Super-AMOLED yet. Engadget's team has played with this phone, and just love the OLED display: "The Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S is nothing short of stunning. Put side by side with an iPhone under some very harsh lighting, the difference between them is pretty astounding. Everything is bright and crisp, text legible, and the colors are jaw-droopingly beautiful".

There are reports that AUO will start installing equipment in their new AMOLED plant in 3Q 2010. They are also recruiting engineers for the new unit. They will start making OLEDs in 2011 again.
AUO will use a 3.5G LTPS line and will produce small to medium-sized AMOLEDs. AUO were actually the first company to make AMOLEDs, back in 2006, but then decided to stop the AMOLED program. In January 2008, they resumed their OLED program
