Samsung is a large company, and currently we hear two different opinions from it - about OLEDs. On one hand, they seem to be very
enthusiastic about small OLEDs. In the past months we saw several new handsets with relatively large (2.8"-3.7") AMOLEDs, and a digital
camera too. In fact Samsung says that half of their new touch-phones in 2009 will have AMOLEDs. Samsung also made comments that OLED for laptops will be ready by 2009, and flexible ones by 2010.
Their VP of flat-panel displays, seems to think differently. They still have issues to overcome with OLED TVs, and it won't be soon - probably 5 more years.
So who is right? I think that if Samsung can make medium size displays for laptops (11"-14") in 2009 then small-sized TVs (~30") will arrive sooner than 2014. I think that if Samsung sees customer reaction to the small AMOLEDs, it will encourage them to make the
large investment needed for larger displays . |
