So CES 2009 is now behind us. The show itself was rather disappointing, but it is expected in today's economic climate. We saw several new OLED devices and prototypes shown from several companies, but we didn't get any OLED TV announcement, which we hoped to hear from Sony or Samsung.
I think the biggest news came from LG. They displayed a 15" AMOLED screen, and they say they can begin to produce it within 6 months, if they get customers. Interestingly, LG signed a large deal with Apple to provide LCD displays. Some speculate that LG will also develop and sell AMOLED displays for Apple's iPhones, iPods or laptops. Indeed Apple might the
first customer for that 15" display...
Sony displayed several OLED prototypes and TVs, including a flexible display. Sony also announced their flagship Walkman player that includes a large AMOLED. Other interesting prototypes were shown by Samsung, UDC and other companies.
Finally, OQO officially announced their latest Ultra-Mobile PC, the OQO Model 02+, that has a 5" AMOLED. That's the first PC with an OLED display!
