DSCC: strong demand for Samsung's latest foldable smartphones leads to jump in foldable OLED production at SDC

DSCC says that demand for Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is very strong in Korea, with pre-orders in the first seven days reaching over 900,000 units. Demand in India is strong as well.

Looking at Samsung Display, DSCC sees its production volume for foldable AMOLED display panels up dramatically from July compared to last year. In fact the volume in July was higher than the combined volume of the production January-July 2021. From August 2021, DSCC sees production of over 1 million panels per month.

LG Display to expand its OLED assembly plant in Vietnam in a $1.4 billion investment

LG Display says it will expand the capacity of its OLED assembly plant in Vietnam in a $1.4 billion investment.

The OLED plant, located in Hai Phong City, is used to assemble OLED panels - for mobile devices, TVs and automotive displays. The plant's capacity will grow from around 10 million monthly units to 13-14 million.

The US blocks Magnachip's sale to China-based Wise Road Capital, citing security risks

Earlier this year, OLED driver IC developer MagnaChip announced that it is being acquired by China-based Wise Road Capital, for $1.4 billion. We reported that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is looking into blocking this deal, and now the CFIUS made its final decision.

The CFIUS stated that "It has confirmed the national security risks that may arise in the United States from the acquisition of MagnaChip by the Chinese private equity fund". This pretty much cancels the potential acquisition.

Xiaomi reports high demand for its new OLED TVs

A couple of weeks ago Xiaomi started shipping its latest OLED TV, the Mi TV 6 OLED last month in China, for 5,699 Yuan (around $880). According to the company, it is enjoying very high demand for its new TV.

Xiaomi says that it has sold over 10,000 OLED TVs in 15 days - which is a new industry record. The company estimates that in these two weeks its share of the China OLED TV market is about 50%.

Skyworth starts shipping its XC9300 OLED TV in the US

Skyword is now offering its XC9300 OLED TV in the US - at $1,350 for the 55" model. The XC9000 sports a 55- or 65-inch 4K 500-nits 120Hz WOLED panels, Android smart OS, VRR for gaming wth HDMI 2.0b, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Atmos and Dolby HDR support.

New OLED gadget: Asus VivoBook Pro 14/16 OLED

The Asus Vivobook Pro 14 and 16 are mid-range laptops, that feature OLED displays - 16" 90Hz 4K and 14" 90Hz 2.8K. Other features include an Intel Core i7 or Ryzen 5000 H-series chipset, and up to RTX 3050 Ti graphics.

The Vivobook Pro 14 and 16 will ship soon, starting at $1,199 for the 14 model.

Mercedes unveiled its 2022 EQE-350 EV, with internal OLED displays

Mercedes has unveiled its 2022 EQE electric car, which is an E-Class Sedan. The car offers a 90kW battery (660 Km range) and the display will either be a 12.8-inch AMOLED or (optionally) Mercedes' MBUX Hyperscreen. The EQE 350 will start selling in mid-2022.

The Hyperscreen is a 56-inch display, actually made from three different OLED units, embedded in a single glass display. There's a central 17.7-inch panel plus two 12.3-inch panels. The 56-inch glass also includes holes for the air-vents which are integrated into the display.
