Samsung OLED updates

January 2021 was a very busy month for Samsung Display's OLED group as well, with new technologies, laptop market updates and more:

Cynora achieves breakthrough in its green TADF material

OLED material developer Cynora announced that it achieved a breakthrough in its deep-green TADF material, which it brands as cyUltimateGreen. The new material delivers an efficiency of over 20% (EQE), a lifetime of 400 hours (LT95@15mA) and a color point and emission spectrum that matches today's DICI-P3 standard (Cynora does not specify the exact number).

Cynora further announced that is now making test kits of the new deep-green emitter available to its customers. Display makers can now start testing and verification using the new material. Cynora says it will also 'soon' follow with a deep-blue TADF solution.

MicroLED production comes to the US

US-based signage solution provider STRATACACHE is building a MicroLED production line in the US. This is an interesting development in the display industry, which has been almost exclusively centered in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China. MicroLED displays can be produced using some unique architectures and processes that enable production to be done in places where TFT-based production (of either LCD or OLED displays) has severe challenges.

The new factory will be used to produce a wide range of MicroLED displays, from tablet-sized panels to large-area signage displays, and will be able to produce both flexible and transparent panels. The yearly capacity of the E4 is expected to start at a 1 million square meters per year, and STRATACACHE will be able to supply both components level products and complete display products to third party customers (although it seems as if most production will be used for STRATACACHE's own projects).

STRATACACHE is looking for domestic and global technology partners and suppliers for the new fab, which will be placed in Eugene, Oregen - in a former Hynix Semiconductor memory chip factory acquired last year. For more information, click here.

The MicroLED Handbook, 2021 edition

Updates to the OLED Marketplace

Our very own OLED Marketplace is a popular service that enables device developers to screen a wide range of OLED displays, from wearable panels, through PMOLEDs and microdisplays to high-end flexible smartphone AMOLEDs. We believe this is the world's most comprehensive OLED catalog.

We are happy to announce that we have now added a new section to the marketplace, with ePaper (E Ink) displays. We have added over 15 displays, ranging from small 1-inch displays for wearables and small devices to 13.3" panels. Most of these displays are monochrome (Black/White) but some also support three colors (Red or Yellow). A few of these displays are flexible.

We also added two new flexible smartphone AMOLED displays to the OLED marketplace. These new OLEDs ,produced by BOE, are now available globally through our supplier partners in China. The first display is a 5.1-inch 720x1520 OLED and the second display is larger at 6.42-inch 1080x2340. Both displays are flexible (curvable) and offer an integrated touch panel.
