OLED news from LG Display
LG Display posted its financial results for Q4 2019, with a lower-than-expected loss of $361.6 million and revenues of $5.4 billion - a 10% increase over last quarter, driven by a rise in sales of OLED TVs and smartphone OLEDs. The company provided an optimistic forecast for 2020 as its sees higher demand for its OLED TV and mobile P-OLED panels.
According to a new report from Korea, LGD finally fixed its technical issues and managed to optimize the yields at its new OLED TV fab in China. Mass production will begin in Guangzhou by the end of this month. LGD's new fab has a monthly capacity of 60,000 substrates, which will be expanded to 90,000 by 2021.
LG Display says that it aims to ship over 6 million OLED TV panels in 2020 - that's double what it shipped in 2019. This includes the new 48-inch panels the company is starting to produce. LGD also says that it sees high demand coming from the automotive market for these panels, and the company revealed that an automobile with its pOLED displays will launch in Q2 2020.
Finally, according to a new report by ETNews, LG Display is set to update its E6 flexible OLED production line to support two new technologies - LTPO and on-cell touch, which LG calls TOC. ETNews says that LG's E6 line is dedicated to Apple - currently it produces 6.5" 2688x1242 OLEDs used in the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
What to expect from SID Displayweek 2020?
The SID DisplayWeek 2020, the premier event for the display industry, will take place in San Francisco (June 7-12). The OLED-Info team will attend this event, and we are happy to present an interview with Sri Peruvemba to discuss the upcoming event. Sri is a good friend and a board director and VP at SID.
So you want a custom OLED for your project, what does it take?
There are many standard OLED displays on the market, ranging from small PMOLED displays to smartphone-sized AMOLEDs with embedded touch abilities (and even larger ones, of course). As every company wants the optimum display for its product, many reach out to us to assist with designing a custom OLED for their project. But what does this process really entail? And who it is right for?
Does it make sense to engage an OLED display maker with a custom display? It depends on your application, budget and volume requirement. Creating a custom OLED is never a simple project and will require a hefty sum (tooling fee, also referred to by some as NRE, or Non-Recurring Engineering) and a large minimum order requirement (MOQ).
The Perovskite Handbook - 2020 edition
OLED-Info and Perovskite-Info are happy to announce the 2020 edition of The Perovskite Handbook.
