LG announces pricing and shipping dates for its 2020 OLED TV range

LG Electronics is getting ready to start shipping its 2020 OLED TVs, and the company announced prices and shipping dates for most of the TV models. Amazon.com now lists the TVs which can be pre-ordered.

Starting at the entry-level, LG's OLEDBX will ship in April 2020, starting at $2,500 for the 55" model. The OLEDCX range, which will probably be LG's most popular series, will also start shipping in early April 2020, with prices starting at $2130 for the 48-inch model.

The next range is the OLED WX Wallpaper series that will ship in early May 2020, starting at $8,500 for the 65-inch model. And finally LG is getting ready to ship its 8K ZX OLED TVs that will ship towards the end of April 2020 - with a price tag of $28,500 for the 77" model. SDC new high-efficiency AMOLEDs

Samsung Display announced that it developed a new AMOLED smartphone display, optimized for 5G smartphones, that features a reduction of 15% in its power consumption compared to SDC's previous OLEDs. The new display also features the lowest blue-light emission in the industry - 6.5%.

Samsung did not explain how it managed to achieve the new reduction in power consumption - this is likely to be the result of new OLED materials. Samsung also does not explain how exactly these new OLEDs are optimized for 5G smartphones exactly - except for saying that these new displays are an excellent choice due to their high image quality, low power consumption and eye-protective functionality (low blue light).

LGD sees further delays in its Guangzhou OLED TV fab, mass production now expected in early Q2 2020

LG Display's original plan was to start producing OLED TV panels at its 8.5-Gen OLED fab in Guangzhou in October 2019, but the company faced technical issues - and even though LGD said it fixed these issues and production will start by the end of January 2020, that didn't happen.

According to a new report from Korea, the CoronaVirus outbreak caused LGD further delays, and mass production is now expected to start in 'early' Q2 2020 - so April 2020 at the earliest. For more information on LG's Guangzhou fab and its plans, click here.

OLED Market Updates

Here are the latest updates from the OLED market:

Cynora announces the world's most efficient blue fluorescent emitter

OLED material developer Cynora announced its first commercial product, a fluorescent blue emitter that is based on an "advanced molecular design" that is 15% more efficient that current fluorescent blue emitters on the market. Cynora brands its new material as cyBlueBooster, and it says it is currently available for commercialization in several shades of blue.

Cynora is still developing its TADF platform, and the company says that the cyBlueBooster is just the first company on its roadmap - which will later include blue and green TADF emitters. We have posted a Q&A with Cynora's CEO that explains this technology and the company's business and status.
