Continental wins a one billion Euro contract to supply OLED displays to an automotive customer

Continental announced that it has earned its first major order to supply OLED displays to a global vehicle maker. The total order value is around €1 billion.

Continental's solution is built from a multi-display that stretches from the driver's area to the center console, and integrates two OLED displays which are optically bonded behind a curved glass surface. Production of the display solution is scheduled to start in 2023.

BOE says it produced around 40 million AMOLED displays in the first three quarters of 2021

BOE is now mass producing flexible OLED displays in two production lines, and the company says it has shipped around 40 million OLED displays in the first three quarters of 2021. One of the company's main AMOLED customers is Apple.

A few days ago we reported that BOE started mass producing OLED displays at its 6-Gen B12 production line in Chongqing, China. With the B12 line in full capacity (expected by late 2022 or early 2023), BOE's OLED production capacity will reach 144,000 substrates.

eMagin reports mixed Q3 2021 financial results

OLED microdisplay maker eMagin reported its financial results for Q3 2021. Revenues were $5.8 million in the quarter, down from $7.3 million in Q3 2021. Operating loss in the quarter was $3.3 million (down from $1.9 million in Q2 2021).

eMagin says that during the quarter it continued to grow its ENVG-B program revenues and also its medical customer revenues, but in total its revenues decreased due to timing issues of certain military orders, and also $1.3 million in shipments were delayed to Q4 due to to production issues and unexpected manufacturing tool downtime.

Where are the rollable OLED smartphones?

In early 2021 we hoped that by the end of the year, we'll see some commercial rollable OLED smartphones. LG Electronics aimed to be the first company to release such a advice, hoping to launch it in early 2021.

Later in 2021 LG Electronics closed its smartphone business, and the rollable OLED phone project was scrapped. LG is still offering the rollable OLED TV , but this uses a completely different production process, and is extremely pricey (it is likely that LG only shipped a handful of these TVs to date).

TCL developed a 65" 8K inkjet printed OLED TV display, as it gets ready for mass production in 2023

According to a report from China, TCL demonstrated 65" 8K OLED panel, produced using an inkjet printing process. This display was co-developed by TCL's CSoT and JOLED.

Last year it was reported that TCL's CSoT is building a $6.8 billion 8.5-Gen inkjet printing line in Guangzhou (the T8 line), with production expected to begin in 2023.
