2D Fab and EcoRub collaborate on graphene-enhanced rubber materials

Sweden-based 2D fab has collaborated with green-tech company EcoRub, to develop graphene-enhanced recycled rubber and polymer.

Through the collaboration between 2D fab and EcoRub, graphene will be used in recycled rubber materials to improve its properties, reportedly aiming to create new business opportunities and enable use in new products. In addition, the need for virgin fossil-based rubber should decrease as resources are utilized in a more sustainable way.

New international standard for measuring the flatness of graphene

Researchers from RWTH Aachen University and the Graphene Flagship Standardization Committee have pushed through a new IEC standard for assessing the strain uniformity of single-layer graphene using Raman spectroscopy.

Research has shown that the electrical and the structural quality of graphene are intimately connected, and that nanoscale lattice deformations caused by surface corrugations limit the mobility of electrons in graphene. Therefore, controlling the flatness of a graphene sheet is fundamental for the fabrication of high-quality graphene layers for electronic devices – and the possibility of measuring this parameter with a simple and fast method is a major technological advantage. Furthermore, the new standard for detecting graphene flatness, pioneered by the Graphene Flagship and published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), could expedite the manufacture and implementation of single-layer graphene.

GtM Action and C&O Concrete collaborate on graphene-enhanced concrete

New Zealand-based graphene technology provider GtM Action is working with pre-fab concrete manufacturer C&O Concrete Limited to bring graphene-enhanced concrete to market.

GtM Action has distribution rights for graphene materials manufactured by Australia-based First Graphene, which was reportedly found (in studies carried out by First Graphene, industry and a range of global research institutions) to provide up to 59% improvement in compressive strength and 33% improvement in tensile strength of concrete.
